HKC Plaza

A Korea based clinic, HKC plaza is an established clinic which has been providing all kinds of beauty treatments for 11 years. Combining art & science, their goal is to unlock beauty within through providing aesthetic services and consultation.

We took part in the construction and refurbishment of the clinic that is located the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The whole concept is concentrated in giving a warm ambiance, using reflective materials and yellow light to provide a relaxing yet comfortable vibe, to reduce customers’ nervousness.

Upon entering is the reception desk clad in black reflective material with an intriguing gold lining. A rose gold and silver reflective background brings out the boldness and identity of the signage in gold, complementing the colors of the front desk.

Warm timber flooring and under-desk lighting were implemented to set the mood as you enter the clinic. On the left of the entrance is the waiting area, filled with long-back antique looking couches topped on a fuzzy grey floor mat which gives the room a touch of luxury. Industrial-style lamps are placed on both the front desk and tea table for an integrated look.

Behind the couches, are a series of rags and cupboards, displaying products, and making them more accessible to potential customers. On the left of the rags is a hidden division of the cupboard, storing electronics and players. Beneath the rags we find a row of lockable cupboards, where customers can store their valuables securely during their visit to the clinic The light beige mosaic background help adds modernity into the picture.

Across the waiting area we see 2 treatment rooms segregated from the common compound by a sleek sliding door. A step into the first room, shows a treatment couch placed in the center, cabinets and built-in wall cupboards on the side which allow clinicians to assess to their tools and essential apparatus for treatments. Along the cabinet includes a sink to sanitize hands when needed. The second room, displaying the same type of storage cupboards, as well as supplementary advisory space and treatment bed.

All the cabinets are specially made by our own manufacturer. The colors and styles were picked and designed thoughtfully by us exclusively for HKC Plaza to fit into their theme. More of our furniture collection can be found on www.siton.my.

M&O is honored to have worked with HKC Plaza.

Productivity in Aesthetics: 5 Things We Can Learn from iStoreiSend Logistics Office Design

Match Ong
There’s much more to creating an efficient work environment than pure aesthetics. A well designed
office space needs to encourage productivity, invoke inspiration and provide comfort to everyone in it.
Creating a highly functioning office like this, which everyone will enjoy working in, isn’t an easy task.
There are several different reasons why this particular project caught my eye, and I’d like to emphasize
some of its characteristics. There are many things that young business and interior designers can learn
from the iStoreiSend Logistics project.
Observant Use of Accents
If you’re a professional interior designer or an at least enthusiast, you must have encountered the
problem of proper accenting. It often happens that you find yourself in a difficult situation where it
seems that you overdo or underdo it. And it’s hard not to cross that thin line and go with just the right
amount.
The M&O team boldly used colors that many wouldn’t on this project, which turns out to be a great
idea. All surfaces in metal or earthy tones were revived with unusual shades of orange, red and blue.
This risk definitely paid off.
Gorgeous, Quality & Functioning

Before flat design became a big thing, offices sort of served as a demonstration of power, and interior
designers often used heavy and massive pieces of furniture that took a lot of space. Thankfully, that’s
not the case now – either because startups don’t have that kind of budget or because of this switch in
trends – and we can see some amazing new interior design currents.
Every piece of furniture and material used in the iStoreiSend office somehow manages to make the
entire space feel even lighter. There’s not a single heavy object that disturbs the natural flow that the
interior designers have established here.
Inspiring Colors & Elements
Considering the fact that an office space needs to be pleasant to different types of individuals with
different personalities, it can be quite difficult for interior designers to make everyone feel welcome and
satisfied. I already mentioned how bold the choice of accenting colors is in this particular project, and I
believe that’s exactly what makes all the employees and clients feel happy and relaxed here.
Each room has an accent of its own, and the thing that connects the whole space together are earthy
tones used as the background on this canvas. There’s a careful choice of other elements implemented
here as well – shapes of ornaments, pots and appliances additionally contribute to the original idea.
Solutions Are in Simplicity

Getting the creative juices flowing and trying to keep a strong focus day after day is challenging, no
matter what kind of work you do. That’s exactly why I believe that an office space needs to serve as a
medium that will help its employees be as productive as possible.
Obviously, a solution needs to be minimalistic, but not boring, and interesting to the eye, but not
disturbing. Once again – a thin line all interior designers need to balance on, but the right example that
can serve as an inspiration is the iStoreiSend Logistics office space.
Ease of Maintenance
Here’s an aspect not many take into consideration. When you’re creating an office for a young business
or a startup, you need to think about their budget – not only design related, but long-term. This means
you shouldn’t implement items into your project that are difficult or expensive to replace.
It’s quite important to focus on quality. Basically, you’re helping another business grow and develop,
and this is something that needs to be carefully thought-out. Smooth surfaces and quality materials
used on this project are simple to maintain and easy to replace if necessary.

That pretty much covers it. It’s sometimes brilliant how simple methods and small things can create a
space that’s highly-functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. I’m sure it involved some
serious brainstorming and a lot of hard work, but all good things do, right? This is an excellent example
of a beautiful office, and I hope it will serve as a source of inspiration to others.
